Born blind, Arylia Van Wolfenstien was the daughter of two explorers who had been living with and studying a previously undiscovered native tribe in the Amazon when Arylia was born. Unbeknownst to her parents, one of the tribe's elders performed an ancient ritual over the baby, blessing her with a supernatural gift that would help her to overcome her blindness. Arylia and her parents stayed with the tribe until Arylia was 3 and they discovered her gift when parts of her body suddenly started becoming invisible for intervals of time. Fearful of what was happening to their daughter, the Wolfenstiens left their home amongst the tribe and sought the best medical help they could afford, which happened to be of the highest caliber because they were an incredibly wealthy family. Despite having access to the brightest medical experts of the time, their efforts to understand what was happening to their child were futile. So, when the world's best scientists failed them, the Wolfenstiens turned to experts of other fields. The mystery was finally solved when Arylia was 15 by an Ancient Civilizations expert who had been widely disregarded by the academic community due to his Occult theories. The expert told Arylia's parents about an ancient ritual that could gift a blind person with the ability to be unseen, then he said that he thought that he might even be able to undo the spell. Arylia's parents agreed to have him try, despite the fact that their daughter didn't want to. Arylia had discovered two things about her power. First that she could sometimes control the gift. Second, and most interesting, that whenever she was completely invisible she could see. She hadn't ever told her parents these discoveries because they had always been frightened of her invisibility and she knew that they would never approve of her purposefully exploring her power. So, when Arylia was told that her parents planned to have her power taken away, she ran away. Living as a young run-away with the power to turn invisible, Arylia quickly became adept at stealing. At first, she only stole enough to get by. But then one day a man who worked as a thief/assassin-for-hire happened to see her turn invisible. Somehow he tracked her down to the abandoned video store that she was squatting in and recruited her. He taught her everything that she needed to know to be a great cat-burglar and assassin & with the added advantage of her ability to become invisible she grew to be the most notorious and prolific thief/assassin-for-hire of the day, known only by the moniker The Chameleon. However, things changed for Arylia one fateful day when she was 23. She was hired by a man who worked for an anonymous employer to kill her own parents. She took the job, intending to double-cross her employer and save her parents, but she hadn't known that she wasn't the only assassin to take the assignment. When she got to her parents' home, another assassin was already there. She attacked him and drove him off, but it was already too late. Her parents were laying in a large pool of their own blood. Her father was already dead, but her mother was still struggling to breathe. Arylia dialed 9-1-1 as she pressed against her mother's gushing wounds, futilely attempting to stop the bleeding.
"Arylia? Is that you?" her mother wheezed.
"Shh, Mama. Save your strength."
"I knew you.... would come..... back one day."
"Mama, shh, shh."
"I don't..... have.... much time. .... I'm s.... sorry...."
"No, Mama, no. Help is on the way. You'll be okay. We'll have time for apologies later. Save your strength."
"But I have... to tell you... the.... -"
At this point, Arylia's mother began to lose consciousness and her words became almost impossible to make out. To Arylia, they sounded something like "comp...knee.... ov... Al....rt ... -gruh...min.... east roy-.... -ing.... ain f- ..-rest... -ou mus .... -ave the tribe. I ... lub -ou."
"Save the tribe?" Arylia asked.
Her mother didn't answer, having used her very last breath to try to tell her daughter that she loved her.
Arylia mourned her parents and sought to avenge them. She no longer went by the moniker of The Chameleon, instead taking on a new persona, that of a vigilante that became known as Blind Rage. Arylia eventually did avenge her parents, having tracked down the anonymous employer who had wanted them dead by figuring out that her parents were the only people keeping Albert Ogramin's company, a huge and corrupt corporation, from destroying the Rain Forest in which lived the tribe with whom her family had once lived. After using her skills to get proof that Ogramin had had her parents killed, Arylia anonymously sent all of the evidence that she had to a police officer that she had been watching for sometime and had determined was a good cop and a great man. Ogramin was arrested within a week and his company went bankrupt due to the scandal and the ongoing investigation.
Arylia planned to put away her persona of Blind Rage and to just live life as regular Arylia, but when she was sitting in the park near her familiar home one evening, she heard a young woman being attacked. She went to the woman's rescue, her invisibility falling around her like a cloak. From that point on, Arylia dedicated herself to protecting the helpless as the superhero Blind Rage.
